Jacobe Smith Wins Lopsided UFC Vegas 123 Co-Main, Bests Randy Brown
The co-main event of Saturdayβs UFC Vegas 123 at the Meta Apex found welterweights Randy Brown and Jacobe Smith on a collision course.
βRude Boyβ Brown was the veteran in the equation, entering pro fight #29 and looking to shake off a pair of losses. Smith was six years his junior, a perfect 13-0, with four of those wins coming under the UFC banner.
Both fighters felt each other out in the opening minute, with Smith connecting on a good leg kick, and Brown trying to find a home for his jab. Jacobe started to press forward with Brown fighting off the back foot. Smith landed another solid leg kick that threw Brown off balance. Smith shot in for a takedown with a minute-thirty lift in the round, securing Brown on the ground. While in top position, Smith started to open up with punches to the body and head, while Brown threatened an armbar submission. Remaining on top until the end of the round, Smith had more than likely jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
To start the second, Smith came out with a new sense of aggression charging forward while throwing powerful overhand shots. Brown retreated to the cage, where Smith would shoot in on a takedown. Smith was able to drag Brown to the floor and again find a dominant position on top. Landing a big elbow on top, Brown tried to throw his legs up for an armbar but was continually eating elbows from Smith. A massive cut formed over the eye of Randy Brown, who was leaking all over the canvas on Halloween night. Smith began to land more damaging punches on top making this fight completely one sided.
Brownβs corner tried to stop the bleeding entering the final round, but he needed a finish to win this contest. Smith was again the aggressor to start the round, forcing Brown to fight off the back foot. Midway through the round Smith landed a beautiful double leg takedown. Smith was able to grind Brown out on top until the end of the round, putting a stamp on the biggest win in his career.
All three judges scored the fight for Smith Unanimously, as the surging prospect should enter the top fifteen rankings with the victory.
Official Result: Jacobe Smith def. Randy Brown by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)
