Nolan Snags Performance Bonus at UFC Vegas 123 After Controversial Standup Leads to Finish

Despite the controversy surrounding a standup that cost Renato Moicano a dominant position in his UFC Vegas 123 main event fight with Tom Nolan, Australia’s Nolan has come away from the event with a Performance of the Night bonus.

Moicano had the back and was seemingly in control in round two when ref Dan Miragliotta stood the fight up, much to the surprise of many watching. Moments later, Nolan hit Moicano with a knee, hurting him on the feet and heading into round three with fresh momentum— momentum that would carry him to a TKO finish a short time later.

There was more talk about the standup than the stoppage after the fight, given Moicano had the back with a body lock. Nolan had been seen talking to the ref, and later clarified that he wasn’t asking for a standup, but rather complaining about punches to the back of the head.

Regardless, the outcome will stand and lightweight Nolan was awarded a $100,000 Performance bonus for his efforts.

Also picking up a Performance bonus on Saturday was retiring featherweight Julian Erosa. “Juicy J” heads off into the sunset with an extra 100K to work with after securing a come-from-behind knockout of Lee Jeong-yeong. The finish came just over 90 seconds into the opening round, after Erosa had been rocked early in the bout.

With no Fight of the Night awarded at UFC Vegas 123, two other fighters picked up Performance of the Night awards. Oktagon double-champ Lucia Szabova made the most of her UFC debut, stopping Tainara Lisboa with ground n’ pound in round three of the pair’s flyweight scrap. Fellow newcomer Joseph Kropschot also took home $100,000 after a submission of Nick Klein in middleweight action.

Rodrigo Sezinando and Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani, the remaining two finishers on the card, earn $25,000 stoppage bonuses.
