Josh Hokit’s NSFW ‘stretch marks’ comment targets Jon Jones and Gable Steveson
Josh Hokit continues to remind us why he is one of the most controversial fighters in the sport when behind a microphone.
A monumental rise has seen Hokit go from Contender Series prospect to headlining Madison Square Garden and on the verge of capturing UFC heavyweight gold within 15 months. Throughout his meteoric push to the top, the NCAA Division I wrestler has seen his name constantly linked with fellow standout collegiate wrestler, Gable Steveson. Under the tutelage of Jon Jones, Steveson has pushed himself into the spotlight since debuting in the UFC. Unfortunately for the Olympic gold medalist, he was on the wrong end of a first-round knockout last time out, leaving his future uncertain.
Despite the defeat, Josh Hokit would happily welcome a Gable Steveson clash should it ever materialize. However, Hokit hasn’t forgotten comments made by Steveson toward him.
“I mean, sh*t, I’ll give anybody a fight,” Hokit said. “After I’m champion, anybody- whatever name makes sense- I’ll give them a fight. But we’ll see if he can make it, you know, make his way back.”
“Talking about I should go to 205 or he’s going to beat me. It’s like, I was trying to stay away from all that, you know what I’m saying?”
Josh Hokit resides in one of the sport’s most notable gyms, Jackson Wink in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn have managed to whip Hokit into world-calibre shape, helping him reach a position countless fighters can only dream of just 15 months into his time with the UFC.
Jackson-Wink is famous for building Jon Jones into a fighter many consider the greatest of all time. But after being permanently barred from the main Jackson Wink gym in 2021, Jones has decided to train Steveson privately, mostly away from elite-level coaches. Rumors of a Steveson and Hokit training session surfaced, but Hokit quickly shut them down, saying:
“I mean, he claims [that he trains at my gym]; he’s not here. You know what I’m saying? I gave him a chance to train with me. He ain’t here.”
“He’s doing his own thing with Jon Jones, and that’s just a whole different situation, you know what I’m saying? He has stretch marks around his mouth with Jon Jones and sh*t. My team is close.”
Hokit continued.
“He’s not here at Jackson Wink, let’s put it like that. And listen, that’s the reason why I don’t play tic-tac-toe. Because it’s like, I don’t want squares around my circle. And he’s not part of my circle. Motherf***er’s a square then… At the end of the day, he’s not here.”
